where can I get assistance getting hearing aids? I'm currently attending school full-time and working a full-time job at Walt Disney World for 7 dollars an hour. Between the tuition for school, and my other bills, and rent, I am having trouble saving enough money for new hearing aids I’m starting to need. Since hearing aids are not covered by insurance and the prices of them are sky-high, I'm afraid I will not have enough money saved to buy new hearing aids by the time I need them. I hate to ask for charity but I'm starting to be backed into a corner. Any suggestion about what I could do?
Does FM listening devices work better than hearing aids? I am hard of hearing and I wear hearing aids however in class last semester, I still had a very hard time hearing. The office of disability support on my campus offered a FM listening device. Will that work better? If so, what is the purpose of spending thousands of dollars on hearing aids (besides convenience) when you can get a listening device for so cheap? I have made appointments to get my hearing evaluated and my hearing aids checked.
What kind of hearing aids in best for poor hearing? I am almost 95 years old. Back in 1983, I was in a car accident and lost most of my hearing. I can only hear 4% in one ear and 15% in the other. I have been through many hearing aids and none have really helped me. I live with my daughter and she says that I am just dreaming and nothing will restore my hearing. I really wish I would find a good brand? Is it possible that maybe a good brand does exist?
How to improve speech intelligibility in hearing aids? Since World War II, people have known that speech intelligibility can be improved by increasing the consonant amplitude compared to that of the vowel. Why isn't this capability incorporated into hearing aids, turning them into understanding aids?
What is a average price for hearing aids? My dad has to get one, the doctor quoted him at like $2200 for one. We really have never known anyone who has had them so we are not sure if this is average or not. Bad thing is, he has great insurance but one of the few things it does not cover is this-hearing aids. Go figure.
Best place/how to donate hearing aids? I have a pair of digital hearing aids that are in excellent (pretty much brand new - only worn 2x) condition. I would like to donate them to a non profit that helps people with hearing loss or someone who really needs them. What is the best way to do this? Thanks.
Hearing aids and how long it takes to get used to them? My wife recently got digital hearing aids and says it feels like she is hearing things as you would hear them on tv. Just wondering if anybody who has them knows how long it takes to get used to them? Or any other useful information regarding this subject?

Think of hearing aids as nothing, just like people who wear glasses? And yes I do wear hearing aids.. :( People say im attractive and nice too.
Why are hearing aids so terribly expensive? I realize the technology has it's price but there are almost as many people who wear glasses that also use hearing aids, why is it still 4000 dollars and higher for two pieces of plastic to amplify sound? I call that a rip off.
Where can I get money for some hearing aids? I have a high tone hearing loss and have to read lips alot. Hearing aids are around $5000 or more and I cannot afford them. Insurance does not cover them either. Does anyone have any real suggestions? I am already working 60+ hours a week so another job is not an option. Thankyou.
How to get hearing aids with no income & no insurance? I have mild hearing loss in both ears & my audiologist recommends correcting it sooner rather than later with a hearing aid in both ears. I have no insurance, no income, live with my parents & they have low income. Is there anyone that would help cover the cost of me getting hearing aids?
What would be the first thing that comes to mind when you see someone wearing hearing aids? I'm a 14 year old girl, And I've had hearing aids since I was 2 years old. I'm really self-conscious about them. I feel like everyones looking at my ears if I wear my hair up. I want to be able to feel like absolutely no one is looking at them. I want to be seen as a normal person without a hearing loss. I would just like to hear what you guys think. What would be the first thing to come to mind if you saw someone with hearing aids ?
How do I comfortably wear eyeglasses and BTE hearing aids? I wear BTE hearing aids and eyeglasses. I think each of them are designed to fit on top of the ear, without any other device on the ear. As it is, my ears get tired from having both devices on them. And if I were to wear on-the-ear headphones, my ears would be even more tired. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you deal with it?
Are behind the ear hearing aids more comfortable than in the ears? I have been using in the ear hearing aids since high school and while they work to amplify as well as would be expected, i tend not to wear them all day due to how uncomfortable they are. I am getting new aids this year and would love anyones opinion as to the comfort of behind the ears. Are they any better?
Where can I dontate unused or old hearing aids? I have several hearing aids that are no longer in use. I have given some to HeadStart as they train kids about people with disabilities. But I still have some and I don't know if there are any places that could use it or recycle it. Only one of them still works. The other ones don't because each one has a typical 7-year span. They are in-the-canal hearing aids and I don't know if they would work with repair. The reason HeadStart uses them is so that kids will be educated when they see people with hearing aids and know what they are for.
Is there a good website to get ratings for the different brands of very expensive hearing aids? At between 1300 and 4500 dollars for hearing aids I can find no place where the various brands are compared. Consumer reports has not done a comparison for mlgable I am aware of what you are saying about different types of hearing loss. But there are many different brands with a great variety of pricing. As with any product I am sure that some brands are a much better value than others. This is not for me but an elderly parent.
How good are miracle ear hearing aids? My grandmother is thinking about spending $2300 for a hearing aid. Miracle Ear is the brand that she is looking at. Is there a website that has evaluations on hearing aids on other information? She has already been to an audiologist and I know that Miracle Ear only sells their own brand. So in order for anyone to help me, I need to know if anyone has had any experience with Miracle Ear and if it was a good or bad experience, why.
Where to apply for assistance for hearing aids? I work with a gal that has a disabled husband and she is in need of new hearing aids, which from what I understand cost around $4,000. She lives in Georgia. Is there anywhere she can apply for assistance to help with the cost? We work in a doctors office and are on the phone alot. Someone please help.
Is it true online Hearing Planet sells returned, discontinued, stripped hearing aids as "new"? Any regulation? Doesn't Medicare or AARP or someone regulate selling expensive health instruments like digital hearing aids by Hearing Planet? What if senior citizens bought pacemakers the same way, then had to wait months and it wasn't up to standards, then went to some contracted salesman to put it in? That's what Hearing Planet does. In our situation, they sent grandma to an unlicensed person who wasn't even an "audiologist" like Hearing Planet told us. Now what can we do?
Are there wireless earphones that look like hearing aids? I have a very boring class in school where we're supposed to do our homework. I usually don't have homework so I wind up sitting in the class counting dots on the ceiling. I want to listen to music during class but I don't want to get caught. Are there any wireless headphones I can buy that look like hearing aids and if so, where can I get them?
Is there a web site that is like a unbiased consumers report guide for hearing aids? I purchased a Rexton Regatta, 1 1/2 years ago & they have been breaking alot, so therefore I am in the market again for hearing aides. I was wondering if anyone knew of a website that would tell me a hearing aids durability level so this doesn't happen again. All I can find so far is websites that sell hearing aides & "Positive" reviews on whatever they happen to sell.
Can I still go to nursing school even with hearing aids? The reason I ask is because, in order to check the heartbeat, you put the (heart beat monitor/whatever its called) into your hear and listen. But I have hearing aids and I wouldn't be able to do that. Does this mean I have to find a new career? My hearing is fine, I hear normal with the hearing aids in. So that's not the issue.
Does communication between left and right hearing aids really help? Some expensive hearing aid brands offer wireless communication between hearing aids. the theory is that they can adjust the amplification levels correctly based on the relative location of the source and maintain the difference in sound levels between left and right ears. This is supposed to makes sound more natural and directional because brain has evolved for that type of difference in sound levels. I am very much interested in hearing it from people who have used hearing aids with and without this features. I have already read about it extensively.
Why can't I hear music or television properly with my new hearing aids? I've had them since October, and I still can't get used to them. I've tried picking up sounds, people's voices are okay, but its music, and television i just can't understand or hear, it echoes, and sounds crackly. I enjoy alot of music and watching television so it's getting frustrating. My audiologist told me to get used to it and it will be fine, but I've tried. Can they make them be able to hear music and television normally like any other person would? They're new Siemens Reflex hearing aids. Thanks.
Can unused hearing aids be refabricated for someone else? My Father passed away and left behind an expensive pair of hearing aids. As there are others in our family who need hearing aids, I'm wondering if they can be refitted and (if they can) if there would be any savings by doing so.
Is anyone else embarrassed of having hearing aids? I don't have hearing aids myself, but I'm completely deaf in my right ear and I'm afraid of going deaf in my left one and if I ever have to have hearing aids(or just one hearing aid) I'm afraid people will think differently of me. I feel sorry for someone whenever I see that they have hearing aids and I don't want anyone to feel any pity for me just because of a disability. IF I ever go deaf in my left ear I'm pretty much screwed.
If u have hearing symptons, then do u have to get surgery or hearing aids? Please tell me quick. I am worried if the ear doctor or whatevher will put me under surgery or give me an instrument called hearing aids. I frequently ask to repeat questions, and when someone is talking behind me for example the left side, I would think they r behind the right side. When my friend talks really fast, I can't hear her well, I can just hear blobs from her. Please, I will have to know quick.
Thankyou.
Where can I get honest professional advice on hearing aids? My Mum is 81, and has a hearing aid, which was very expensive. (£1500.00) and is virtually useless. I consider this to be a total rip off. Considering that you can get state of the art computers, TV's etc for less than this, I can only conclude that hearing aid companies are only interested in making fat profits from the vulnerable, for what is essentially a microphone and speaker. Can anyone point me in the direction of a company that actually cares about its customers, and not soley on its profits? Genuine answers only please. Thank you.
How to eliminate squeal or feedback from in the ear hearing aids? When I turn the volume up on my ITE hearing aid to a functional level, I get significant feedback. If I press the aid into my ear the squeal stops. Is there a solution to the problem short of having new ear molds made? I've even considered trying something like a denture adhesive to get a better seal. Is there anything anyone has tried that helps?
What are best hearing aids for a Violinist? I do play violin in an orchestra. I have difficulties to understand what the conductor say due to hi freq hearing loss. Any recommendations for choosing the proper hearing aid (experience with brand and model)?
Would you treat someone a little differently (in a bad way) if they had hearing aids? It's my first day of ninth grade tomorow and I have to wear hearing aids. They are pretty tiny but you can still see like the wire and stuff. Please state honestly, if you were my classmate would you feel repulsed or not want to be my friend? I am very self-concious. Do you ahve suggestions so I will stop worrying about what other peopel think? I am afraid everyone will hate me because I wear hearing aids.
why do i need to wear hearing aids? I have high frequency hearing loss. I'm 17 yrs old and entering 11th grade. I don't want hearing aids, but the audiologist and my dad think I should wear them.
Is there any type of ear surgery for people who wear hearing aids and want normal hearing? What I'm saying is, I've been looking all over the internet, I even checked out the cochlear implant and it's not for me. I might try it on my right ear to see what happens, and if it works then I'll try it on my left. Any advice or suggestions? Or maybe a few websites I could look at, anything would help thanks. My hearing aids are the only things that's blocking me from joining the armed forces, and it's in my blood.
I wear hearing aids, but would like to get surgery, is it safe? I am turning 22 this month, and have been wearing hearing aids, since 19 years old. However, I have decided to get surgery, because I often get depressed that wearing hearing aids is the only way I can hear. I am getting married next month by civil, and I want to be able to wear my hair up, and hear the clerk perfectly, but is it safe to get operated? Is it too late? I would like to know more details about this please.
Can contact lenses be free if I wear hearing aids? I'm 15 and i wear hearing aids & sometimes glasses. But it's hard because it's so uncomforble for my glasses that goes behind my ear to irritate the hearing aid, making it very bulky and horrible. Do i have to pay for contact lenses, can they be free on the NHS? Or do i have to just pay for them? Glasses really don't suit me at all. Thanks.
How do hearing aids work? I wear them in both ears, and I'm really curious about how they actually work. I mean, I understand Cochlear implants because they stimulate the hair nerves in the cochlear, but what do hearing aids actually do? There's no operations for any such, do they just send louder noises to your eardrums? Any info would be awesome. Thank you.

can you use stethoscopes with hearing aids? when I served in operation enduring freedom as a combat refueler/combat life-saver I damaged my hearing while sitting next to the pump on the tanker. I became a medic when I got out of the army now I am suppose to get one hearing aid in my left ear..(the right one still doesn't need one) can you use stethoscopes with hearing aids? do you need a special stethoscope? I like this idea thanks for the help! A BTE earmold can be modified with a dimple (or well) in the heel of the earmold that will accept the stethoscope eartip. It centers the sound outlet of the stethoscope with the vent hole in the earmold, allowing the sound to go more directly into the ear canal
Anyone using Rhapsody brand hearing aids? I have an appointment at the Shea Clinic in Memphis (a Rhapsody reseller) this week. I know I need hearing aids (age 48, male) for a high-end hearing loss and pronounced tinnitus. I've worn inexpensive ($500 each) behind the ear analog instruments before and they helped a great deal, but they died 5 years ago, and I have not worn any since. So this would be my first pair of "real" digital instruments. Can anyone estimate the cost for me, and let me know if you like them? Thanks!
When were hearing aids invented? Yeah, they're aren't much additional details. The question is pretty self explanitory. So, when were hearing aids invented? When did people actually begin to use them if they had trouble hearing? Thanks a ton!
want to know hearing aids compatible with telephones? My colleague has an after effect of medicines he is in need of hearing aids that are compatible with telephones. Any suggestions on a job for someone that has 2 hearing aids, but extremely intelligent? My father-in-law has been looking for a job for several months. He has hearing aids in both ears and he is 53 yrs. old. He has had interviews by phone and face-to-face, but no success yet. He has even paid some company to help him with interviews and how to sell himself. I don't know if it's his age or his hearing that is the problem. He is a great accountant and has worked for food manufactorers and plants as their accountant. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there another profession that might work better for him. I just thought I would try to help him out all I can. I would appreciate all comments.
