Finally Today

I wear hearing aids, but would like to get surgery, is it safe?

I am turning 22 this month, and have been wearing hearing aids, since 19 years old. However, I have decided to get surgery, because I often get depressed that wearing hearing aids is the only way I can hear. I am getting married next month by civil, and I want to be able to wear my hair up, and hear the clerk perfectly, but is it safe to get operated? Is it too late? I would like to know more details about this please.

  1. Are you talking cochlear implants? Much depends on the reason for your deafness. No operation is without its risks and I don't think any operations of this nature can be guaranteed to work. Trust me, people won't notice your hearing aids, they'll be too busy oohing and aahing over your lovely dress and happy smile. But even if you could organise and undergo an operation before your big day, I doubt if the scars would heal by then - soooo not a good look. Plus, I don't think your hearing is immediately restored. And...I'd think you have enough on your plate at the moment without the hassle and expense of an operation!! Have a google though, and speak to your audiologist. BTW, I've had hearing aids since my deafness was diagnosed when I was 3...but it took me til I was 13 before I fully, finally accepted wearing them was my best option. So I do understand where you're coming from. Best of luck for the wedding!
  2. What kind of hearing loss do you have?I don’t think cochlear implants would be useful for you if you have hearing aids. Implants are for people who have little to no residual hearing.
