Any Possible Chance of Getting Into USC?
I am just ending Junior in high school. My GPA is low... a 3.0 unweighted, but I am planning on retaking a few classes online before I file my App. It should bring me up to about a 3.3 or a 3.4. I have many honors and AP classes under my belt and I am planning on taking them again my Senior Year. I am in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) Club at my school and I have many hours of volunteer work. I have just been Nationally Certified as a Phlebotomist through a prestigeous Allied Health Program at my school. I've also held down a part-time job for the past two years. Oh.. and before I forget my SAT scores are a 2164. I know that I probably do not stand out as much compared to more accomplished students but I have heard that anyone will be accepted as long as they don't ask for fianacial aid. Is there any truth to this rumor? Under any of these circumstances... do I have any chance?

- You sound just fine! You are well rounded and scored greater than the 90th percentile for your SAT. Admissions boards look for students that are well rounded and have a high probability for success. Even though your GPA is a little low A. You are exceptional in every other category and B. you are gonna retake some classes to seal the deal. You should be fine as long as you write a good essay. Good Luck!
- You should definitely talk to your counselor! They should have, or be able to get, all of the answers you need. State Universities are reasonably easy to get into with good grades even if you DO need financial aid. Merit awards and GRANTS (not loans) are the best ways to get the finances you may need and your couselor should be able to help you with that, too. Good luck!!
- Maybe it is possible, do well in your interview. Your advantage is your SAT score. And gain admission to USC ! Good luck.
- Even though you have an outstanding academic record, high test scores and a commendable community service record, USC often offsets tuition whenever the following occurs: 1. The entering candidate is a minority; 2. The parent's total household income is less than $60,000 per year; 3. You have an immediate family member who is an alumni of USC; 4. Your major field of study is one in which USC is currently promoting by subsidized tuition, i.e., nursing, elder care, medical assistant, surgical technician, etc. 5. Your long-term objective is to return to USC as a member of the teaching faculty. Hopefully the following criteria will be helpful to you and your family in evaluating your eligibility for USC entrance and acceptance. Good luck! P.S. On another approach, if any member of your immediate family has been employed at USC [other than at the hospital] for a period of 12 years or more, then any and all family members are eligible for free tuition [assuming they meet the entrance grade point minimum, which is 3.0]. Under this circumstance, I was able to attend USC for free.
