What to do in Orlando area (besides theme parks) with kids baby-11 years old?

Considering taking kids- will be 11, 3 and 9 months or so- down to Orlando next March or April for vacation- what are great things to do in the area (we would rent a car) besides Disney/Universal? We might go for 2 or 3 days to the theme parks, but I couldn't stand to do it all week! Ideas? Some off the beaten path fun stops?

  1. Take a day trip and travel to one of the beaches. We did that during our family trip. Sanibel Island has the best shell hunting.
  2. You can try the Orlando Science Center http://www.osc.org/
  3. I agree about the beach and the science center...very cool. And perhaps come over and check out the space center...the oldest one would really enjoy that. You could do that and the beach all in one day. There is a park in christmas (east of Orlando) called Fort Christmas where kids can tour the fort and see artifacts from the Seminole Indian War and there are also other old "cracker" house which is old world Florida stuff. It is a shady park with fun play equipment too...so a great place to stop and picnic. Has a gift shop and bathrooms. It is right on the way to the East/Space coast via SR 50.
  4. Green Meadows Petting Farm is awesome Gatorland is unusual Water parks are great for your kids ages, something for everyone. Airboat rides Wakeiva Springs Cypress Gardens Horse World Winter Park for lunch, then boat tour and there is a park
