What is a average price for hearing aids?

My dad has to get one, the doctor quoted him at like $2200 for one. We really have never known anyone who has had them so we are not sure if this is average or not. Bad thing is, he has great insurance but one of the few things it does not cover is this-hearing aids. Go figure.
