What use is a pocket talker if you already got hearing aids?

I guess you can plug one into a neck loop which connects into a persons hearing aids via telecoil (t-switch). What's the point though? Would they add additional amplification or something?

1. if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.
