What is hot today as a subject for painting on canvas?

I am a visual artist, tired of the direction I am going and am looking for new subject matter to paint. What subject matter interests people today who buy art work?

1. Personally I like when I look art and can always find something new about it. I buy a lot of this type of art.

That is the number one publication for knowing what is happening in today's current market with art. Almost every gallery gets it as well as the framers. There is nothing better you can do for yourself as an artist than know your market. You may also want to pick up Jack Whites book on how to market and sell your work.The Mystery of making it. Another place to see trends is model homes. If your painting in subjects or colors that clash with the lifestyles of today's buyers you are shooting yourself in the foot. I am not saying that it may not be great art but do you want to wait for the market to catch up with you or do you want to paint art that is great and sells today! Lots of great artists eat well off their craft. You should get License magazine too which is also free. That is where big money is in art. Mary Englebreight makes in the millions. She has more licenses than Gene Simmons of Kiss. Many serious artists use the license market to balance the ups and downs of the fine art market. Check out art expo in New York! Great show great artists. There is so much you can do with art and so many ways to make it if you have the right tools. You don't have to sell out to sell your work! 5. I don't know what direction you are going now. But subject-matter that interests people today is very much concerned with expression of personal identity, culture or ethnic background; and also topics with social or even political relevance. Multi-media installations are still in vogue, although painting is making a comeback. A mmda. installation could include in the same work painting, sculpture, texts, video and lighting elements. To get an idea about the the subject matter that interests artists and public today read/look at some of the works featured at the Venice Biennale (still on) this summer. The main show was titled: Think with the Senses - Feel with the Mind. Either decorator pieces in current fad colours (look at furnishing accessory colours in magazines). or The movement for more serious art (not decorator items)seems to be reverting to traditional skill and technique, although not classical style. If you can create a contemporary work and execute it with quality fine art technique, you're on your way.
