What is the best fighter jet today?
Which fighter has the best handling? Cost Efficiency? Speed? Payload capacity? What is the best fighter jet today? But doesn't the F22 Raptor cost a lot of money and use up a lot of fuel? Is the F-35 Lightning II any good?

- F-22 Raptor
- Unfortunately, the F-22 was canceled with the Joint Strike Fighter (F-35) in the works to service all the branches of the military. So F-22 notwithstanding, you're looking at older craft until the JSF rolls out into service.
- Arguably the F-22 as it is quite stealthy for an air-superiority fighter. It is expensive as hell, but is fast and efficient on fuel. Pilots say it's extremely maneuverable. And yes, while the F-22 program has been canceled for now, 145 have been built, are in service, and will be in service for a very long time to come. The F-35 is more of a multi-role aircraft rather than a specialized air superiority aircraft. Yes it will be able to handle the role easily, and by all accounts excel, but the F-22 still outclasses it in the air-to-air department. Had a friend in the Air Force who mentioned something about a 6 on 2 excercise of 6 F-15Cs vs 2 F-22s. According to his story all 6 F-15s were 'shot down' without ever detecting the F-22s. True or not, it makes for an impressive story.
- The F-22 Raptor is the most sophisticate fighting jet today and it have all the advantages in almost all the jets on earth, they're the most completed jet. The F-22 Raptor may be an expensive aircraft, but doesn't hold the distinction of the most expensive.... That distinction is probably held by the B-22 Spirit which rolls in a cost of $1.1 billion per aircraft.
- The F-22A Raptor Block 30 or 40 is the most advanced fighter jet in the world today, and predicted to be so for decades into the future. The USAF is the operator of it, and only lets the best fly it. In the number two slot, is the F-35B. The F-22 Costs a lot of money, but in a war would pay for itself over time by being much better than the F-35 at saving other expensive machines from being destroyed, so overall, it would be vary efficient. It is the only aircraft in the world with "super-cruise", wich is where it can efficienlty go supersonicly WITHOUT USING A LOT OF FUEL. It's top speed must be vary good because it is classified by the USAF and has extremely powerful engines. It's payload is massive even while maitaning stealth (where it can not be detected). Contrary to popular beleiff, the F-22 can carry, in its bay doors, six AIM-120C missiles, and -contrary to popular belieff- six AIM-9X missiles. That is a total of TWELVE missiles. I have the USAF to back this up. That is more than most, while not even haing any external payload. By all means except for ground attack, the F-22A Raptor is by far the best fighter world has ever know, and will know for decades to come. By the way, Mr.Evo, It was probably just a typo, but just make things clear, it is not the B-22 Spirit, but the B-2 Spirit. I hope that this has answered your question.
