Crystal's Strategy: Do her own thing - her way - all the way (American Idol)?

OK, so I live in Toledo and the place is going bonkers. On the news (ABC-13) this morning they had a good story about Crystal. They interviewed the President of The Toledo School for the Arts who said that he had chills run up and down his spine when he saw her perform in a bar and went up to her and offered her a full scholarship on the spot. She just said, "I'll check it out" Next day she shows up and the President said, "I saw this hippie chick with a guitar strung over her shoulder - I just had to grab my camera and take a picture." they showed the picture - she had redder hair back then. They showed her doing 'Janis Jopin - take a piece of my heart baby' at graduation. BTW I dont need to go to Elliston to see a Crystal sign - at the TS4Arts they have a billboard - 'Crystal went here'. Then they went to "The Village Idiot' bar in Maumee, Ohio and interviewed a bartender - he said he saw 100s of performers over the years and only once did he cry and it was when Crystal played. The next day he brought in his cam corder and recorded her (he said he only did that a couple times)- they showed that. Before American Idol, Crystal went back to the Toledo school for the Arts and practiced and perfected a variety of styles. The President of the school said Crystal told him "I don't care if I win or not - I just want to get far enough to get exposure." ---- So I figured that would be enough news on Crystal. But the Blade's headline was Crystal to sing friday 14th at Toledo Mudhens - minor league baseball (national anthem and 'take me out to the ballpark'). So if she wins one of the top three spots she will take a couple days and fly to Toledo to sing at a ballgame?!?!? Not sure that is a good strategy. So will Crystal sucuum to judges' pressure to be more mainstream to advance or will she continue to do her own thing and not care whether she wins or not????????????????

Public Comments

  1. I love her independent streak. She cares to win - but not enough to change her style and artistic integrity.
  2. Crystal won't succumb to anyone's pressure. She's true to herself and wants to win. She's being modest. And she's getting plenty of exposure. Got an email from my cuz in AZ telling me his family is voting for her. I was able to get two tickets for the ballgame on Friday. (Call the MUDHENS ticket office - they'll hold them for you) The last 2 or 3 standing always go back home before the show is over and they show us their "roots". Her visit to the MudHens (big thing in Toledo) is just a part of this. Hope the quick trip isn't too much for her healthwise. Go Crystal! See you at the game! (Don't forget......there's fireworks after the game -lol)
  3. Crystal is used to pressure - she's raising a kid, moved to Hollywood, deals with Diabetes - I'd say the judges pressure is the least of her worries. She has talent and it shows. VOTE FOR TALENT. She won't cave. She may get jet-lag on her trip. Maybe she can sleep on the plane. And all the support she gets from people at the baseball game will boost her spirits. That's gotta keep her going.
