ABC news report - Mentioning China in the same sentence as the "cold war"?

So I just got the abc news report about China having weapons "comparable with the cold war era" As do, the uk, usa, france, germany, blah de blah de blah, etc... Am I the only person who thinks that western media (uk too if you listen carefully) are now trying to portray new China as a "new russian" 'red' enemy to be fearful off... ala Japan ten years ago with the whole "japanese imports are gonna ruin our economy" reports? Might be my cynical opinion - But I'm curious about yours on these recent reports Cheers for indulging me guys

1. Lots of people are suspicious of communist/one party states for whatever reasons. I think the British are less taken in by their own government's propaganda than Americans are. No one here ever really cared about the USSR or feared it or communism in anyway. The European approach to such ideologies to defeat them electorally.
2. i think it's been going off and on with China for a long time. i would say this is definitely not a new development.
3. China is an economic threat in waiting to the West.
4. If the west didnt not have an enemy they would have to invent one. Let history be testiment to that.
